Notes from the Vicar

Dear Neighbor of Daisy Fields,

I’m Declan Jarry, and you know me as the homeowner who lives on the corner of Trillium Trail and Lilium Lane. I want to wish you a very happy holiday season and a blessed New Year.

What you may not know is that I am also the Pastor of a new church in Glenn Dale. Christ Church Glenn Dale began one year ago, right here in my home with the meeting of two of our neighbors. During the last year, we have grown and become a small loving community of Old Catholic Christian believers. We meet each Sunday evening at 5:00 PM for Holy Communion, and the second Sunday of each month we have a pot-luck dinner in my home immediately after church. It’s a great way to meet new people and have a lot of fun.

Christ Church Glenn Dale currently meets in Saint George’s Chapel next to the Episcopal Church on the corner of MD 193 and MD 564, which is close and convenient to Daisy Fields. (It’s right across the street from the Glenn Dale Post Office.) At Christ Church, we celebrate “Common Worship”, that is, we all are on the same page (literally) as we worship. Our liturgy is 2700+ years old, originating with the people of Israel, modified by the New Testament Church in the first century AD, refined by the Roman Catholic Church during the high middle ages and re-freshened by the common language of the 21st century. Christ Church is “Catholic” by tradition, “Evangelical” by faith and “Loving” by nature. Our worship follows some simpleguidelines: Stand to sing, sit to listen, stand or kneel to pray, and our communion is open to all baptized believers. Everyone is welcome to share in the ministry of Christ Church including women and children as well as men, and it is not our place to judge and shun people because of a divorce or a person’s sexual orientation.

With Christmas almost here, you may not attend church regularly, but you want to celebrate the birth of the “Babe of Bethlehem” with singing carols and a traditional “Christ-Mass” by candlelight. Please come worship with us. You are most welcome and we would love to share this holy season with you.

May God’s Peace and Grace be with you during this Holy Season.
